Sunny Smiles Summer Camp is a community start-up with a child and family centered approach to service.
Founded by two elementary school educators with a combined 20+ years of experience in the field, Sunny Smiles is the birthing of a passion project that strives to empower and enrich the lives of youth in Howard County, MD.
We are located at the epicenter of Savage, MD (conveniently located just outside of Laurel, Jessup & Columbia) at the historic venue that is Carroll Baldwin Hall.
Who We Are:
Our Core Values:
The values that are important to us as an organization are the same as those we strive to instill in the children we guide.
Acceptance: inclusivity, embracing differences, compassion, equality, tolerance
Gratitude: appreciation, generosity, kindness
Community: connection, friendship, teamwork, social-emotional development
Our Mission:
Our mission is to promote positive youth development through programming that supports The Six C’s - competence, confidence, connection, caring, character, and contribution.
Our motto is simple:
Be KIND. Be SAFE. Have FUN!
Hey Beautiful People! My name is Selena and I’m originally from PG County Maryland. My favorite part about working with children is watching them grow and learning from them. They teach us so much if we would just slow down long enough to notice. I enjoy spending my time working out, hiking, swimming, traveling, reading (definitely a book worm!) and listening to music. I have some of the funniest and most embarrassing stories to share about my time playing basketball at the University of Pittsburgh, but you’ve gotta come to camp to hear them! This summer, I am sooooo looking forward to connecting with new families and giving children an amazing experience!

Why Sunny Smiles Summer Camp?
Our Staff
Not only do we take special pride in the programs we offer, but we also take special care in the people we hire! Sunny Smiles counselors are sensitive, caring, and enthusiastic leaders! At Sunny Smiles Camp your child will receive individual attention and you will experience the personal touch that has made our camp so special for over 30 years.

Staff Training & Background
Our counselors are all Educators serving children and their families in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. This means they go through a rigorous background and training process. They have a combined experience of over 30 years in the field, are certified and have earned bachelor's degrees from accredited Universities. What’s more, they are required to attend our trainings on positive reinforcement, behavior management, camp safety, supervision, and anti-bullying.

Staff to Child Ratio
While we are mandated by the State to a 15 to 1 child to staff ratio, we provide ratios typically around 8 to 1, on campus and while on field trips. During water activities, our ratios are 5 to 1. This allows us to prioritize child safety and support campers who fare better in smaller group settings.

Anti-Bullying Initiative
Bullying and cyberbullying, harassment and intimidation, hazing and/or bias behaviors are unsafe and do not reflect our organizational mission or core values. When a situation that involves any of these behaviors is reported, staff members will respond quickly and appropriately. Campers also receive anti-bullying lessons weekly especially on how to be an upstander. Stay tuned for our anti-bullying page coming soon!

Activities
Throughout the summer your child will enjoy a variety of camp themed weeks and activities. Our days are carefully crafted and planned to suit the interest of a variety of interests. Campers can expect to participate in multiple weekly field trips, science experiments, arts & crafts, sports and outdoor activities, pool days and more! Our final week of camp is culminated with Spirit Week and a carnival themed farewell day. If you don't make it to any other week, you definitely wanna make it to this one!

Facilities
Did you know that many summer camps do not have access to indoor facilities the entire day? At Sunny Smiles, we have safe, kid-friendly, and climate-controlled facilities throughout the day—a necessity given the DMV's humid and hot summers.
These are just a few of the many ways Sunny Smiles Summer Camp stands out. And, if you haven’t already, give us a try. You and your child won’t be disappointed!
